BELLWETHER ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN A NEW FIELD DISCOVERY

 HOUSTON, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Bellwether Exploration Company (NASDAQ: BELW) has reported the test results of the H.E.& D. Operating, Inc. - No. 1 State Lease 14375 well drilled in Main Pass Block 1, offshore St. Bernard Parish, La. From perforations between 6,902 and 6,907 feet in an Upper Miocene sand the well flowed 384 barrels of oil per day, 100 mcf of natural gas per day and no water through a 16/64" choke with a flowing tubing pressure of 281 psig. Shut-in tubing pressure was 609 psig.
 Bellwether has a 10 percent working interest in the well before payout of well costs and an 8 percent working interest in 151 leased acres around the well. A delineation well is expected to be drilled in early 1994.
