BELLSOUTH TELECOMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES REDEMPTION OF THREE DEBENTURES

 ATLANTA, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc., a subsidiary of BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS), today announced the redemption of three debenture issues.
 The redemption date for the issues has been set for Feb. 22. The company announced on Jan. 15 the sale of 7 and 12 year notes, the proceeds of which will be used to refinance the three debenture issues.
 The issues being redeemed are:


-- Thirty Year 8 Percent Debentures due July 1, 1999, in aggregate principal amount of $150,000,000 issued by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company ("Southern Bell"). The redemption price will be 100.55 percent of the principal amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. The name and address of the paying agent is: The South Carolina National Bank, Corporate Trust Dept., 101 Greystone Blvd., Room 101, Columbia, SC, 29226.
 -- Thirty-Two Year 8-1/2 Percent Debentures due Nov. 1, 2001 in aggregate principal amount of $125,000,000 issued by South Central Bell Telephone Company ("South Central Bell"). The redemption price will be 100.92 percent of the principal amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. The name and address of the paying agent is: Marine Midland Bank, N.A., Corporate Trust Operations, 140 Broadway, Level A, New York, NY, 10015; and
 -- Thirty-Four Year 8-1/4 Percent Debentures due Dec. 1, 2004, in aggregate principal amount of $150,000,000 issued by South Central Bell. The redemption price will be 102.23 percent of the principal amount plus accrued interest to the redemption date. The name and address of the paying agent is: Citibank, N.A., Corporate Trust Services, 111 Wall St., Fifth Floor, New York, NY, 10043.
