BELLSOUTH MOBILITY REPORTS ON STATUS OF CELLULAR SYSTEM
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- In its continuing effort to help keep customers informed on the status of its cellular system, BellSouth Mobility will continue to provide public service announcements at noon and 5 p.m. daily, throughout this hurricane emergency period.
Following is a report as of 1 p.m. today, on the status of BellSouth Mobility's cellular system:
In Broward and Palm Beach counties and in North Dade, the system is operational in all but a few of its coverage areas. Repairs are being made, and coverage in these areas is expected to be restored within the next 24-36 hours. In southern Dade County, and south to the Florida Keys, much of the company's cellular system was damaged, due to the direct impact of Hurricane Andrew. BellSouth Mobility's entire network crew is on the scene, and repairs are underway and will continue 24-hours-a-day, until this southern part of the system is again fully operational. Hundreds of cellular phones have also been loaned to emergency service groups throughout South Florida to assist in disaster recovery efforts.
All of BellSouth Mobility South Florida offices, with the exception of its offices located at 9700 S. Dixie Highway and 7278 N.W. 58th Street in Miami (which were closed due to power failure from the storm), are open to assist customers. If you have any questions, please call BellSouth Mobility at 305-776-3850.
