BELLCORE'S NETWORK INTEGRITY EXPERTS: NOT JUST FOR TELCOS ANY MORE.

MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 11, 1994--The knowledge and expertise that has helped America's telecommunications networks A telecommunications network is a of telecommunications links and nodes arranged so that messages may be passed from one part of the network to another over multiple links and through various nodes.  stay up and running through a decade of unprecedented technological change are now available to the entire marketplace, Bellcore announced today.

The announcement came at a day-long session for journalists hosted by Bellcore's new Network Integrity Center -- a group of scientists, engineers and other specialists whose work is to keep communications networks The transmission channels interconnecting all client and server stations as well as all supporting hardware and software.  safe from disruption.

"Network integrity is the art and science of keeping communications networks functioning, making sure the information flows through them securely, with as few glitches as possible," said Murrae Bowden, Bellcore's General Manager, Network Integrity. "At least at a high level, a network is a network, and many of the challenges faced by telephone companies are faced by operators of private data networks, wide-area networks Wide-area networks

-Education and training in all these disciplines.

"In an increasingly networked world, the impact of a breach of integrity in one network isn't necessarily limited to that network," Bowden said. "We can all think of examples in the world of telephony where, in recent years, a fire in one central office, or a tiny mistake in a huge software program, can seriously hinder communications across a broad geographic area. We should take these threats seriously, but we shouldn't be overwhelmed by them. They're all manageable, and we're learning more about them all the time.

"Bellcore looks forward to sharing its knowledge with the broad information industry -- and to learning more every day."
