BELL ATLANTIC-NEW JERSEY USES BROADBAND TECHNOLOGIES' FLX SYSTEM FOR INTERACTIVE DISTANCE LEARNING SERVICE.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 1995-- BroadBand Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:BBTK) today announced that Bell Atlantic is using BroadBand's Fiber Loop Access (FLXr) System as the primary video transport and switching system for its interactive distance learning service in New Jersey.

The new network facilities are designed to provide interactive video conferencing for educational purposes, enabling students and instructors to use video conferencing, access electronic video libraries, and take in-classroom field trips. The video conferencing enabled by the BroadBand FLX System will also offer access to educational resources that are too far from students for practical commuting, and provide a means of access for students who cannot attend traditional classes for other reasons.

The educational network is part of Bell Atlantic's "Opportunity New Jersey" plan, which will provide voice, data and interactive video services to link approximately 3,300 sites throughout the state by the year 2000. The four counties in the initial stage of the distance learning program are Bergen, Morris, Hudson, and Burlington. "Herbert Tate, president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, has commended Bell Atlantic for offering this service in support of the governor's mandate to achieve equitable access to education throughout the state," said Frank Pento, director-Opportunity New Jersey strategic initiatives, Bell Atlantic-New Jersey.
