BELL ATLANTIC NAMES BEHUNIAK TO HEAD UP PCS UNIT REPLACING FOWLER

ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Bell Atlantic announced today that Mark S. Fowler has resigned as president of Bell Atlantic Personal Communications, Inc. due to a personal business venture, PowerFone Holdings, Inc., which now requires his full time and energy.
Daniel P. Behuniak, vice president and chief operating officer for Personal Communications, Inc., will assume Fowler's responsibilities.
"Mark has made a significant contribution to the formation and pursuit of Bell Atlantic's PCS strategy, and to furthering a vision of the PCS information highway for the entire country. We look forward to continuing to work with him as a leader in the wireless industry," said Lawrence T. Babbio Jr., chairman and CEO of Bell Atlantic Enterprises International.
"Bell Atlantic remains fully committed to obtaining PCS spectrum to supplement existing cellular and landline businesses, and to working with others to develop a nationwide wireless service," Babbio said.
Fowler began his work at Bell Atlantic in April, 1992, as head of Personal Communications, Inc., which was formed earlier that year to coordinate and advance Bell Atlantic's growing development activities in regard to emerging PCS-related technologies and services. Since then, Bell Atlantic has taken an aggressive position in the FCC's docket on PCS spectrum allocation and other forums, urging national service -- coupled with regional service configurations -- as the most expedient, efficient means of bringing the full benefits of PCS to the American public.
Bell Atlantic Corporation (NYSE: BEL), based in Philadelphia, is the parent company of seven telephone companies in the mid-Atlantic region that provide a full array of local exchange telecommunications services. Bell Atlantic also is the parent of one of the nation's largest cellular carriers and of companies that provide software, systems integration, hardware and software service and support, and financial services throughout the United States and internationally. In addition, Bell Atlantic International offers network services and consulting to telephone authorities throughout the world and owns an interest in Telecom Corporation of New Zealand.
