BEING SKINT JUST A POOR EXCUSE DONS.

Byline: EUAN McLEAN

SIGMA Olomouc boss Zdenek Psotka has told Aberdeen that pleading poverty is no excuse for their Euro humbling because the cashstrapped Czech side are in the same boat.

Psotka admitted the 5-1 triumph at Pittodrie was a dream result he never could have predicted when his troops arrived in the Granite City Granite City, city (1990 pop. 32,862), Madison co., SW Ill., an industrial suburb of East St. Louis, on the Mississippi; inc. 1896. It has port and rail connections.  with the intention of keeping a clean sheet and maybe snatching an away goal.

Sigma got a lot more than they bargained for but Psotka insisted their win was not the product of a booming bank balance.

Like Aberdeen, they have only been able to sign one player during the close season and fear they might be left without a sponsor next year as the global financial crisis hits hard. So Psotka reckons Mark McGhee's men cannot use their cash woes to explain the Europa League embarrassment.

at the attitude of the Dons players who collapsed after the Czechs edged in to a 2-1 lead.

He said: "We are a club with little money. Sparta, Slavia and Liberec are the rich clubs and it is hard for us to compete with them.

"This year we have only signed one new player but he is old and out injured in·jure

"This was a result from a dream. Aberdeen played good football but only for 60 minutes. After we scored the second goal they made more mistakes.

"It was a surprise what happened after we made it 2-1. Players should still be playing after a setback setback

when he claimed a lack of competitive games hampered their fitness levels.

He said: "We had three competitive matches before meeting Aberdeen and I thought our fitness would show.

"I am delighted with the result but this is not the club's best European performance. We've beaten Ferencvaros 7-1 but this victory comes second.

"It was difficult to prepare for the game because Aberdeen's manager is new. I watched two matches from last season but it was a different formation as they had a different coach. Now they are playing more of a European style.

"We will not lose this lead in the return leg but it is still important to put on a good performance for our fans."
