BEI Medical Systems Announces That Its Hydro ThermAblator Will be Subject of Three Presentations At FIGO World Congress; Preliminary 12-Month Data to Be Introduced.

BEI Medical Systems Company, Inc. (NASDAQ: BMED) will feature its investigational device the Hydro ThermAblator(R)("HTA(R)") system at the 16th FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics, being held at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, DC, Sept. 3-8. The new, minimally invasive, non-surgical method for treating excessive or undesired uterine bleeding, will be the subject of three guest speaker presentations during the conference.

The Hydro ThermAblator(R) (HTA(R)) is designed to treat the condition known as Menorrhagia, or excessive uterine bleeding, in an outpatient or office setting, and can be performed by most gynecologists with diagnostic hysteroscopy skills.

Unlike traditional ablation techniques relying on precise direct application of laser or electrosurgical energy to the entire lining of the uterus, the Hydro ThermAblator utilizes freely circulated heated saline that fully conforms to the entire uterine cavity, including the difficult to reach cornual areas. The procedure is performed on the patient through a transcervical approach into the uterine cavity utilizing direct visualization and low pressure.

BEI Medical has completed Phase I and II clinical trials for FDA approval to market the HTA in the United States and recently completed the clinical portion of the Phase III randomized trial, including the 12-month post treatment clinical data collection. The company is currently in the process of preparing to submit the clinical module of the PMA to the FDA. Some of the clinical trial results will be presented at the FIGO World Congress.
