The FDA-approved HTA enables physicians to perform endometrial ablation, the removal or destruction of the lining of the uterus, as a minimally invasive treatment alternative to the approximately 150,000 hysterectomies performed annually in the United States for menorrhagia menorrhagia /men·or·rha·gia/ (men?ah-ra´jah) hypermenorrhea.

Most notable of BEI's comprehensive educational program at the AAGL Congress, which consisted of 22 presentations delivered by ten prominent physicians, was the HTA's 24-month follow-up results. Dr. Stephen L. Corson of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and medical director of BEI Medical Systems, reported that of the women for which 24 month data was available, 47.6% indicated a complete cessation of menstrual bleeding and an additional 44.2% had a reduction in bleeding to acceptable levels. Overall, 95.5% of the women continued to be satisfied with their results two years after treatment and 92.5% reported alleviation of menstrual discomfort.
