Timeshia Neals is scrapping her plan for a show business career for one with more action and excitement - like selling pagers.

The 10-year-old's change of heart came as she watched her mother go through the paces Thursday as a GTE GTE General Telephone & Electronics

GTE Global Tropospheric Experiment

Timeshia even put on a headset Headphones combined with a microphone. Used in call centers and by people in telephone-intensive jobs, headsets provide the equivalent functionality of a telephone handset with hands-free operation. Many people use headsets at the computer so they can converse and type comfortably.  and mimicked her mother by pretending she was making a pitch to an imaginary Imaginary can refer to:

``I love it, I like when she sells pagers and I liked when I was pretending selling them,'' she said. ``That's why I want to work here when I'm 18.''

Timeshia was one of more than 100 girls and a few boys who came to GTE California's headquarters in Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  for national Take Our Daughters to Work Day, sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women.

The youths, ages 9 to 17, started the day with a continental breakfast, then went on group tours of the graphics department, emergency operation center, television production studio, on-site fitness center and other facilities at the company's California headquarters.

Then it was off to work with their parents.

``The response was really overwhelming, all were enjoying themselves and also learning,'' said GTE spokesman Larry Cox.

Timeshia's mother, Cynthia - who started working for GTE only three weeks ago - said she had never heard of Take Our Daughters to Work Day until company officials sent out a general notice encouraging employees to participate.

Somehow, having her daughter watching her every move and seeing the youngster mimicking her got Neal's own juices flowing. She even sold more pagers than usual.

``It inspired me,'' Neals said. ``I was more at ease because she was with me and the more that she pretended pre·tend·ed

to be on the phone and selling pagers, the more it inspired me to help the customers that called.''
