BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE PURCHASES HOSPITALS FROM HOSPITAL CORPORATION OF AMERICA

 NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Behavioral Healthcare Corporation (BHC) announced today that it has completed the purchase of two psychiatric hospitals from subsidiaries of Hospital Corporation of America (NYSE: HCA).
 NationsBank of Tennessee assisted in the transaction, which was completed Dec. 31. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
 "This acquisition falls in line with our company's growth strategy of providing a continuum of care in the psychiatric healthcare field," said Edward A. Stack, president and chief executive officer of BHC.
 "It also supports the company's profile of being recognized as a quality provider as both hospitals are recognized as leaders in their communities. For example, Cedar Vista recently received JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation with commendation," Stack added.
 The acquisition of the hospitals brings the total number of psychiatric facilities owned by BHC to eight.
 The facilities acquired, number of beds and locations are:
 -- Canyon Ridge Hospital, 59 beds, Chino, Calif.; and
 -- Cedar Vista Hospital, 61 beds, Fresno, Calif.
 Stack said that the hospitals will retain current local management and staffs. He noted that both hospitals have very strong medical and clinical staffs and will offer a full range of behavioral healthcare services in inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment settings.
 Nashville-based Behavioral Healthcare Corporation was formed in December 1992. The company is privately owned by individual investors including Stack and a senior management group, as well as institutional investors.
