Now the Library of Congress is asking other vets to tell their stories, too. There are almost 19 million war veterans living in America America [for Amerigo Vespucci], the lands of the Western Hemisphere—North America, Central (or Middle) America, and South America. The world map published in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller is the first known cartographic use of the name. , but of those, more than 1,600 die each day.

The government has established the Veterans History Project. Working with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., this project collects and preserves oral histories from war veterans beginning with World War I. The histories can be anything from audio and video recordings to letters, journals and photographs from both military personnel and the civilians who supported them.

On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the Veterans History Project will be conducting a workshop titled ``Veterans' Voices of California'' in Sacramento. Veterans from around the state are invited to attend and learn more about adding their voices to history.
