Serve-A-Crowd Beef Steak will bring cheers from sports fans with hearty appetites.

SERVE-A-CROWD BEEF STEAK

1 (3-pound) boneless beef round steak, cut 1-inch thick

2 tablespoons chili powder

2 tablespoons packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce

2 medium onions, sliced and separated into rings

1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce

10 crusty rolls, split OR 20 medium flour tortillas, warmed

Toppings: thinly sliced lettuce, julienne-cut jicama ji·ca·ma

A crisp, sweet turnip-shaped root vegetable (Pachyrhizus erosus) used raw in salads and as crudités or cooked in stews. Also called Mexican turnip, yam bean.

Place a 28x18-inch piece of heavy-duty foil in a shallow roasting pan; place beef steak in center of foil.

In a small bowl, combine chili powder, brown sugar, garlic and pepper sauce, mixing until well blended. Spread on both sides of steak; top with onions and chili sauce. Bring two opposite ends of foil up over steak; seal with double fold. Seal ends of foil to close.

Bake in preheated 325-degree oven 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until beef is tender.

Remove onions and juices to a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 3 minutes or until slightly reduced.

Meanwhile trim fat from steak. Carve steak crosswise into thin slices; arrange on a serving platter. Top with onion mixture. Serve beef in rolls or tortillas with choice of toppings. Makes 10 servings.

NUTRITION INFORMATION PER SERVING: 327 calories; 27 grams protein; 38 grams carbohydrate; 7 grams fat; 766 milligrams sodium; 66 milligrams cholesterol.
