BEEB PRODUCER MADE CHILD PORN VIDEOS; Police found hundreds of films.
When police went to Robert Bathgate's home in Glasgow, they discovered hundreds of films showing teenage boys in sexual acts.
Most of the films involved boys who, although they were older than 16, looked much younger.
But paediatricians, asked by detectives to view the filth, said in three videos the boys involved were aged between 13 and 15, Glasgow Sheriff Court was told.
During their inquiries police found Bathgate's distribution ledger and unmasked 17 customers, including a Lanarkshire lawyer.
Yesterday, Bathgate, 51, of Huntly Gardens, Hillhead, Glasgow, admitted illegally possessing indecent videos of children over a five-year period from 1990 to 1995.
He also admitted publishing, printing, and distributing obscene tapes over the same period.
Sheriff Kenneth Mitchell was told Bathgate was fined a total of pounds 3000 in 1992 for similar offences.
Gordon Crawford, prosecuting, said after the police raid, Bathgate admitted that some of the films were "a bit dodgy".
Two Scots who both bought thousands of pounds worth of films from Bathgate have already been prosecuted.
They were named in court as Wilson Paterson and Patrick Farrell.
Paterson had spent between pounds 1400 and pounds 1900 on videos and Farrell between pounds 500 and pounds 4700.
Bathgate sold some of the films for up to pounds 35 each in what Mr Crawford described as a lucrative business.
Thomas Ross, defending, said that Bathgate ordered the films from German and Dutch porn catalogues.
He added all the films, which he described as gay pornography, were for Bathgate's own use.
To defray the costs he copied them and sold them to friends and their pals.
Mr Ross stressed Bathgate didn't advertise or solicit customers and the financial rewards were not big.
Bathgate sometimes bought three films for pounds 35 each, copying them on to one tape which he sold for the same figure.
His four video recorders were seized by police.
Sheriff Mitchell called for social inquiry and community service reports and ordered Bathgate to appear before him on May 8.
