BECOME A COMMUNITY JOURNALIST TODAY.Byline: -- Mark Kellam There's a fire down the block, a traffic accident around the corner or someone doing something heroic for someone else up the street. If you see it, share the news with your neighbors. They've heard the sirens or seen the smoke. However, if it's not a big fire or traffic accident, they may never know what happened. With valleynews.com, you can tell them. You can take a photo and post it to the Web site, with as much information as you know about the incident. You become a citizen journalist, letting your neighbors know where that fire truck or ambulance was headed. On Jan. 16, part of Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks was closed for about a half an hour so firefighters could tackle a small blaze in the roof of a building that used to be a theater and now houses a day spa. The fire started around 3 p.m. and was out in about 20 minutes. It took me just a few minutes to get out of my car, walk a few blocks and take this photo. Next time you see news breaking, why not let your neighbors know about it? CAPTION(S): photo |
