BECKMAN ANNOUNCES A CHANGE TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS.FULLERTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1996--Beckman Instruments, Inc. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :BEC) announced today the resignation of Henry Wendt from its Board of Directors and the Board's election of Charles A. Haggerty, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Digital Corporation to fill the vacated position. Mr. Wendt, who is managing partner of the Finisterre Fund, a strategic equity investment fund focused on health care, was a Director of Beckman since it became public in 1988 and served as the company's Chairman in 1988 and 1989. His association with Beckman began in 1982, when Beckman joined SmithKline to become SmithKline Beckman. Mr. Wendt was Chief Executive Officer of SmithKline Beckman from 1982 to 1989 and also Chairman of the Board from 1987 to 1989 as well as Chairman of the Board of SmithKline Beecham from 1989 to 1995. Mr. Haggerty, 54, joined Western Digital, a manufacturer of hard disk drives, in 1992 as President and Chief Operations Officer. He assumed his current responsibilities the following year.
