BEBO GIRL 'LURED TO ASSAULT' Website used to meet victim.

A GIRL was sexually assaulted after being lured to meet her attackers through teen website Bebo, it emerged yesterday.

The victim and two friends arranged to contact a number of youths of similar age when the alleged incident took place.

The girls, aged 17, 14 and 15, met their assailants at a house in Grange Rath, Drogheda, Co Louth.

Gardai have questioned one youth already about the assault and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It was previously alleged that the girls had gone to the cinema and were invited back to the house by a group of foreign men.

But officers have since denied this and said no non-nationals were involved.

It was claimed the alleged victim, 17, was separated from her pals.

Her two friends then apparently barricaded themselves inside a toilet in the house, while their pal was allegedly attacked.

The girls then rang their mothers and minutes later one of them arrived and demanded the two leave the property. The alleged victim was then taken to the Sexual Assault Unit in Dublin's Rotunda Hospital.

A Garda source said: "We have interviewed a number of people as a result of the allegations we have received.

"A file will be sent to the DPP when the case file is complete."

The Bebo website has attracted controversy since its popularity grew a few years ago.

It originated in the US and is one of the fastest growing web portals among young people.

But many parents and schools have raised concerns about the site's safety - which contains photos and personal details about its members.
