 ELECTION OF NEW DIRECTOR CLASS III
 CLEVELAND, Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of Bearings, Inc. (NYSE: BER) announced today the election of Russell R. Gifford as Director of Class III for a term expiring in 1993 to fill the vacancy on the Board resulting from the resignation of James D. Rode earlier this year.
 Gifford is President and Chief Executive Officer of The East Ohio Gas Company, the largest distribution subsidiary of the Consolidated Natural Gas Company, headquartered in Pittsburgh. He is also President of West Ohio Gas Company, Lima Ohio; and River Gas Company, Marietta, Ohio.
 Gifford, age 53, joined East Ohio Gas in 1962 and has spent his entire career in the natural gas industry. Prior to being named President in January 1989, he was Senior Vice President. In addition to being a director of East Ohio Gas, he also serves as a director of West Ohio Gas Company, The River Gas Company, National City Bank and First Union Real Estate Investments.
 Gifford is a member of the American Gas Association. He serves on the Greater Cleveland Growth Association's Executive Committee and is Chairman of the Greater Cleveland Chapter, American Red Cross; Chairman of North Coast Harbor, Inc.; Member of the Cleveland Foundation's Distribution Committee; Board Member of University Hospitals, Baldwin- Wallace College, the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Cleveland Tomorrow, Greater Cleveland Roundtable, Urban League of Greater Cleveland, The Salvation Army, and the Playhouse Square Foundation.
