BEANIES ARE BACK; MCDONALD'S AWASH IN TOYS.

Byline: Cliff Edwards Cliff Edwards (14 June, 1895 - 17 July, 1971), also known as "Ukelele Ike", was an American singer and musician who enjoyed considerable popularity in the 1920s and early 1930s, specializing in jazzy renditions of pop standards and novelty tunes.  Associated Press

McDonald's Teenie Beanie Babies are making a comeback.

The fast-food giant on Friday will begin offering a reported 240 million of the stuffed critters - one for nearly every American - in a four-week promotion at restaurants across the country.

The company was stung by criticism from angry parents and children when last year's promotion was cut short by a frenzy for the popular toys.

``Our hope is we have enough inventories so that everyone is able to at least get a couple of these,'' said R.J. Milano, assistant vice president for USA marketing of the Oak Brook, Ill.-based company.

The toys come in 12 different styles - up from last year's 10. They are: Twigs the giraffe giraffe, African ruminant mammal, Giraffa camelopardalis, living in open savanna S of the Sahara. The tallest of animals, giraffes browse in treetops at heights inaccessible to other leaf-eaters. A male may be 18 ft (5.5 m) from hoof to crown. , Bongo the monkey, Pinchers pinch·ers
