BEAN STILL AHEAD IN CAMPAIGN FUNDS.

Retired physician Donald Bean continues to lead all candidates in campaign fund raising in the race for two seats on the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

With less than two weeks left before the Nov. 3 election, Bean had raised $26,535, most of it from physicians, and has spent $18,936, according to according to

The No. 2 campaign fund-raiser is Gary Hill Gary Hill (born in 1951, Santa Monica, California, U.S.) is an American artist who lives and works in Seattle, Washington.

One of the pioneers of video art, Gary Hill has exhibited his video and video installations worldwide (Artfacts 2007).
, the Lancaster city finance director, who has raised $11,039 and spent $9,052.

Incumbent Shirley Sayles has raised $8,280 and spent $7,930, and Dr. John Birsner Sr. has reported $2,396 in contributions and expenditures of $5,708.

A fifth candidate, Dr. Tim Hadaya, said he does not intend to raise or spend more than $1,000. A sixth candidate, Stan Pearson, has dropped out of the race but his name will appear on the ballot.

The latest campaign contribution and spending reports, the last to be filed with the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Registrar-Recorder's Office before the election, cover the period from Oct. 1 through Oct. 17.

Bean's latest contributors included Pasadena attorney Jay Christensen, $1,000; developer Andrew Eliopulos, $250; and Dr. Richard Elton, $100. Bean also has loaned $7,500 to his campaign.

In the first contributions filing, Bean reported $5,000 from the Antelope Valley Neuroscience Medical Group and another $5,000 contribution from Dr. M.Z. Lameer.

Bean has spent funds on political ``slate'' mailings, advertising, campaign buttons, balloons and campaign mailers.

Bean retired as medical director of the AV Medical Group in 1996 and in the 1994 election campaign, founded the Committee to Cure Antelope Valley Hospital, a group that backed Dr. Harvey Birsner, son of John Birsner Sr., and attorney R. Rex Parris. Birsner was elected but Parris was not.

New contributors to Hill's campaign include Lancaster Planning Commissioner Ed Sileo, $1,000; J.P. Eliopulos Enterprises, $250; former board member Hank Marvin, $200; and Dr. John Kayvanfar, $100. Hill has lent his campaign $3,000.

Hill's first-period contributors include Lancaster Cardiology Medical Group, $1,000; Dr. M.Z. Lameer, $1,000; Dr. Anil Kumar, $250; Dr. Eugene Rajaratnam, $250; and $100 each from Fox, Dr. Richard Elton, John Massari of Insurance Associates, Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts, Lancaster City Hall executive secretary Maureen Reilly, Dr. Brit Smith, and Pat Sileo of Hi Desert Answering Bureau.

Hill has spent money on outdoor advertising, a Web site, buttons and broadcast advertising.

Birsner's campaign reports indicate contributions of $1,000 each from the Antelope Valley Neuroscience Medical Group and retired radiologist Mary Ellen McCarthy.
