! We don't mind telling you that all those entries in our Scary Story and Drawing Contest had us more than a little freaked out.

We read about people barfing worms. We read about other people barfing rats. We had creatures with glowing red eyes, and creatures with no eyes at all - just holes where the eyes used to be. Yikes yikes

We encountered the usual cool assortment of ghosts and goblins, witches and werewolves, skeletons and zombies Zombies

Companies that continue to operate even though they are insolvent. Also known as living dead.

Notes:
It's advisable to avoid investing in zombies at all costs their life expectancies are highly unpredictable.
. (Eeew! We didn't realize until now that zombies eat people alive - that is REALLY gross!)

There were scads of people running around without heads, and, interestingly, we had a math teacher with THREE heads. (Bet she's good at ``mental math.'')

We received a story titled ``The Bloody Finger.'' It was pretty great, except for one slight problem: We couldn't find a bloody finger anywhere in that entire story. Maybe it should have been titled ``The INVISIBLE Bloody Finger''?

The point is, we received hundreds and hundreds of stories and drawings. All of them were wonderfully entertaining and creative. In fact, it was so difficult to choose winners that we also decided to award an honorable mention in each category.

Congratulations to all our winners. And thanks to everyone who entered. You scared us to death.

C. . I scooped the guts out and then cut into it a really, really scary face. It looked like it was mad. Then I went up to bed. I heard a noise coming from downstairs. It sounded like a bunch of vines growing. I went downstairs to take a look, and when I looked there were 3 million pumpkins in the living room. I noticed that the pumpkin guts had grown new pumpkins that looked exactly the same as the first one. They looked mad! They started to roll after me, so I ran up the stairs, but they followed me by thumping up the stairs. They were way slower than me. I ran and tried to wake up my mom, but I saw there was no one in the house. I heard ``Thump! Thump! Thump!'' coming up the stairs. I jumped over the bed to distract them. When they were all on the bed, I threw the covers over them and they started to glow. Then I cut the vines. When I pulled off the covers, I didn't see anything. I went downstairs, and I saw my mom and dad carving pumpkins. I took the pumpkins and put the pieces they had carved back into the pumpkin and then carried the pumpkins back to the pumpkin patch.

The Field of Ghouls

Bill was totally bummed. He had the Chicken Pox chicken pox or varicella (vâr'əsĕl`ə), infectious disease usually occurring in childhood. It is believed to be caused by the same herpesvirus that produces shingles.  on Halloween night, which he had caught from his pesty little sister. He'd been planning to go out with his friends, and now this had to happen to him. It wasn't fair! He wondered if having such bad luck was a warning of things to come. His mom told him he couldn't even answer the door! She said he might get other kids sick. So he was sent upstairs and had to watch from his bedroom window.

The sun was just setting. Bill was looking out at the cornfields surrounding his farmhouse. He suddenly saw something! He blinked a couple of times, figuring it would be gone, but it was true - the cornfields were turning into ghouls! Each cornstalk corn·stalk also corn stalk

All of the sudden, he started hearing a voice that said, ``If you build it, they will corn.'' What??? ``If you build it, they will corn.''

Bill didn't know what this meant, but he figured he had better listen to the voice. He sneaked out of the house and went to the work shed. He got some tools and went outside. He quickly built a large wooden box. He had to hurry. The ghouls were beginning to haunt haunt

Amazingly the ghouls came over. As each one entered the box, they turned back into corn. It was a very good harvest that year.

The Dust

A long time ago, a family lived in a house. There was a Mom, a Dad, a brother and a cat. One day the cat was playing in the forest and he came back covered with a strange yellow dust. The Mom really hated dust in the house, so she gave the cat a bath. The minute the water touched the dust, all these weird monsters popped out of each dust particle. They were big and yellow and had sharp teeth. The ran around the house and bit everyone's ankle. The family was so scared that they called in The Dustbusters.

The heroes brought in their secret, powerful vacuum and tried to suck all the dust monsters up. But the monsters kept biting through the bag and escaping. The Dustbusters told the family to move away from the house and they would bring out their most powerful vacuum ever made. The family packed up and left. The Dustbusters vacuumed the house so hard that all the dust monsters were sucked up.

Meanwhile, the family settled in a new place. The first thing they did was unpack See pack. . When they opened the suitcases, they hardly noticed the strange yellow dust in the bottom of the suitcases. When they had taken everything out, the Mom put the suitcases in the laundry to be cleaned. And then ...

Do YOU have any dust in YOUR house???

The Mystery of Parkway Lane

One day, a family of four had just moved into a beautiful house on Parkway Lane. Little did they know, another family haunted the house, just like theirs, only they died two years earlier. Both of the families had two boys and loving parents.

Then, one day the youngest brother got so sick, he passed out and never woke up again. Then, the older brother started hearing faint gunshots. Every day, the gunshots got louder and louder. One day it was so loud, he freaked out and started tearing up his room, and when he went to throw his bed across the room, he found a gun underneath it. The brother was so crazy at the time, he shot himself and died.

The parents had gone through such a horrible phase that they went out of their minds and decided to drive their car off the cliff, and they died. The cycle repeated itself. Then the boy woke up from his dream with a fever, paleness and a nasty cough. All the symptoms of Scarlet Fever.

The Powers of Witchcraft witchcraft, a form of sorcery, or the magical manipulation of nature for self-aggrandizement, or for the benefit or harm of a client. This manipulation often involves the use of spirit-helpers, or familiars.

Sandra, Cristina and Monica are all students at Sagebrush sagebrush, name for several species of Artemisia, deciduous shrubs of the family Asteraceae (aster family), particularly abundant in arid regions of W North America. The common sagebrush (A.  High. They're all witches. They want to have powers, but they need a fourth person in order to have powers. North = 1st person, South = 2nd, East = 3rd, and West = 4th.

They all go over to each other's houses and take turns reading spells. They're trying to call on their god, Pheobe. She is the witch goddess. She is blond and is very powerful!

Sandra is reading her Witch Almanac almanac, originally, a calendar with notations of astronomical and other data. Almanacs have been known in simple form almost since the invention of writing, for they served to record religious feasts, seasonal changes, and the like. , which is a book that tells the witches what is happening today. Sandra tells Cristina and Monica that there will be an arrival of something today, maybe the fourth.

Monica says, ``We don't need a fourth.''

Sandra turns around and says, ``If we want to make things happen, then yes, we do need a fourth.''

Later that afternoon Sandra, Cristina and Monica were sitting on the lunch benches eating their lunch, when a girl comes over and asks ``Can I sit with you?''

Sandra answers, ``Sure.''

``What's your name?'' asked Cristina.

``Pheobe,'' she answered.

``What did you just say?'' asked Monica.

``Pheobe is my name,'' she replied.

Sandra, Cristina and Monica were looking at her like, wow!

Then Pheobe says, ``I was called here by the three of you. I know you think I'm suppose to be like, 100 years old, but I am only 18,'' she said. ``I chose to stay this age for the rest of my life.''

Pheobe, who is the witch goddess, has finally heard the three and is now part of the three, which means that they now have a fourth. North = 1. South = 2, East = 3, West = 4. Now the four can make things happen.

The four went over to Pheobe's condo which is in the main city. Her condo is very small but very nice and suitable.

bottles in her kitchen, and in her bedroom she has books, and they all talk about spells and witchcraft. She also has one black cat, which she takes everywhere she goes.

While at Phoebe's house, Pheobe got out a book from a drawer which read, ``Power Spells,'' on the cover. Pheobe brought her book out to the balcony. Sandra started to spread out the blanket onto the floor, Monica was lighting candles everywhere around them and between them, while Cristina was setting up the decorations needed.

Pheobe started to open the book, and she turned to the page which read ``Initiation to be a true witch,'' which is like a ceremony they perform with each other to let them have magic and remain as a group forever.

Monica started saying the first lines which were, ``A veratoo, muskonii, on this night we shall overcome all our fears, and anyone who comes in our way.'' Suddenly the candles were falling over and the book was flipping from one page to the next, and there began to be thunder.

All of the sudden everything stopped and it was quiet. Sandra, Monica and Cristina all looked at Pheobe and her eyes were turning red, and she said, ``You three are fools for thinking that I would be friends with you, I only wanted to use you, then take your bodies and souls.''

Pheobe put out her hand and in her hand she held out a beautiful necklace necklace: see jewelry. , with different designs, and she started to make the girls disappear into the necklace. Finally they disappeared into the necklace where they would remain forever.

Pheobe put the necklace around her neck and felt a tap on her shoulder. Pheobe turned around and saw Sandra standing there. ``I'm still here,'' said Sandra. Sandra tightened her fist and punched Pheobe and jumped off the balcony into the condo swimming pool. From there she ran out the main gate.

2 years later.

Sandra was now a college student at Windsur College. She never spoke of the incident that happened 2 years ago, but she can't forget it because she has one thing that keeps reminding her of what happened. Remember she took something from Pheobe? Well that something was the necklace and now Sandra will try to unlock the ``spell of mystery.'' Let the suspense SUSPENSE.
