BDM WINS USAF DMRD-924 COMPUTER CONSOLIDATION CONTRACT VALUED AT $362 MILLION; LARGEST AWARD IN COMPANY HISTORY

MCLEAN, Va., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BDM Federal, Inc. (BDM), has been awarded a contract potentially worth $362 million to consolidate large mainframe computer systems for the U.S. Air Force Materiel Command. The five-year contract, the largest in company history, was awarded in early February of this year after a long and hard-fought competition, according to BDM President and CEO Philip A. Odeen. The contract award was subsequently protested by a losing bidder, and the protest was dismissed late last week. An initial $67 million contract activity is already underway.
"We are enormously gratified at this award which will enable us to continue helping the Air Force modernize its worldwide logistics management, an activity with which BDM has been associated since 1985," Odeen said. That year BDM won the Air Force Requirements Data Bank (RDB) contract, a contract now worth over $200 million. RDB was the original centerpiece of Air Force Logistics Modernization, Odeen noted.
The new contract is for the Defense Management Report Decision 924 (DMRD-924) program. DMRD-924 is a well-known Air Force directive mandating the consolidation of Air Force Materiel Command computer sites for both performance and cost reasons. Six Air Force sites are involved, including Materiel Command headquarters at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and five major maintenance depots in Sacramento, Calif.; San Antonio; Oklahoma City; Ogden, Utah; and Warner- Robins, Ga.
Andrew Bilinski, BDM corporate vice president, is the BDM corporate executive responsible for the DMRD-924 program. He has served in a similar capacity with the RDB program since 1989. Bilinski reports directly to Odeen. Donald E. Harter, senior vice president at BDM/Dayton, is program manager. He has been RDB chief engineer and program managers since 1986.
The work will be performed largely at BDM's extensive Dayton facilities. BDM will also open or expand offices at the maintenance depots to meet requirements associated with the contract. hi Data Systems, Storage Technology, Computer Associates and Dataswitch. "This team includes three of the nation's largest system integrators -- BDM, TRW and SAIC -- all of whom design and build integrated systems for government and private sector clients. The Amdahl mainframes offer advantages unmatched elsewhere, including high power (357 MIPS), incremental growth capacity, low power requirements, low system overhead and a UNIX operating system."
BDM Federal, Inc., headquartered in McLean (metropolitan Washington) provides scientific, engineering, technical and expert services to public sector clients in national defense, transportation, communications, energy, logistics, environment, space, information systems, advanced technology, systems integration, public policy and other areas of federal activity.
