) today announced plans to join with AirGate L.L.C. in a bid for licenses to provide 2 GHz personal communications services See PCS.  (PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. AirGate has formed "AirLink", an entity which will bid for 30 MHz licenses in the "C Block" round of auctions to be held by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission Federal Communications Commission (FCC), independent executive agency of the U.S. government established in 1934 to regulate interstate and foreign communications in the public interest.  (FCC). If successful, AirLink will build and operate a PCS network. BCE Mobile and BCI have acquired an option to purchase an indirect equity interest in AirLink, subject to certain conditions.

The timing of events associated with the "C Block" auctions is currently uncertain due to a legal challenge by a potential bidder to FCC rules regarding the auctions.

Owing to the competitive and regulatory nature of activities associated with this process, only limited information will be available until the conclusion of the auctions.

They have also been involved in the deployment of local fibre optic networks, and have extensive experience in supporting the establishment of cellular and PCS operations throughout the world.
