ROCKVILLE, Md. and MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2001
Industry knowledge, strong management skills top list of
qualifications of former president of EDS global health group
BCE Emergis Inc. (TSE: IFM), a leading provider of e-commerce services and exchanges, today named Faye S. Baggiano, Ph.D., as president of its North American eHealth Solutions Group, which focuses on bringing the benefits of e-commerce to the health insurance industry and to its trading partners.
Dr. Baggiano, with over 20 years of executive healthcare experience in the private and public sectors, joins Emergis from EDS, where she served as president of the Health Care Global Industry Group, a $1.3 billion operation with more than 5,000 employees. At BCE Emergis, she succeeds George C. Blake, who is stepping down from this position for personal and health reasons. George Blake was instrumental in the expansion of that group both in Canada and in the U.S and successfully spearheaded extending Emergis' reach into the e-claims arena for the health insurance industry.
"With an extensive background in the electronic delivery of health industry solutions, Faye brings a wealth of global e-health industry experience to lead our team," said Christian Trudeau, president and chief operating officer, BCE Emergis. "We will also leverage her in-depth knowledge in the health policy issues that shape the industry and use her proven management skills in a fast-growing global organization."
"BCE Emergis has a clear vision and strategy for electronically enabling the industry, as well as the electronic solutions to do so," Baggiano said. "I firmly believe that, with the challenges it now faces, the health industry is ready to adopt the technology that will ensure secure, paperless transactions while at the same time improve the delivery of health related services."
In her six years at EDS, Baggiano was responsible for leveraging technology to expand into new health markets, such as providers (hospitals and physician practices), life sciences (especially pharmaceuticals) and long-term care, as well as growing the core business in the government and managed care sectors.
Her industry leadership and knowledge are reflected by the numerous roles she has: she chairs the Information Technology Association of America e-Health committee and serves on the board of directors of the Association for Electronic Health Care Transactions. She is also a trustee of the U.S. National Health Museum and sits on the Executive Committee of the American Accreditation HealthCare Commission.
Baggiano brings both a U.S. state and national public policy background to Emergis, having served as a Presidential appointee as associate administrator of Medicare and Medicaid External Affairs for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Care Financing Administration. Her many achievements include membership in cabinets of two governors of Alabama on Medicaid and pensions and security issues.
Baggiano also has an international perspective of health issues and chairs the Health Committee of the U.S. Council on International Business. She has represented the U.S. as a member of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the Organization for Economic and Cooperative Development in Europe and at European Commission meetings.
Faye Baggiano earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, and her doctorate from the University of Alabama.
She will work out of the eHealth Solutions Group headquarters in Rockville, MD.
