BCE Appoints Ronald W. Osborne as President.

:BCE) BCE Inc. announced today the appointment of Ronald W. Osborne as president, BCE Inc., effective May 7, 1996, the date of the company's annual general meeting. Mr. Osborne, who joined BCE Inc. in January, 1995, is currently executive vice-president and chief financial officer of the company. (biography attached)

L.R. Wilson, BCE's chairman, president and chief executive officer, who has been president since 1990, will continue as chairman and chief executive officer.

BCE Inc. also announced the formation of the BCE Canadian Telecom Group Council, chaired by Mr. Wilson, with J.T. McLennan, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Bell Canada, as its president. This co-ordinating committee, comprising senior executives of the BCE companies involved in delivering telecom services in Canada, is responsible for ensuring the timely development of new initiatives across the group.

Bell Canada also announced today that Mr. Wilson will succeed J.V.R. Cyr as chairman of the board, Bell Canada, effective March 1, 1996. Mr. Cyr is retiring from Bell Canada after 38 years of distinguished service, and will continue as chairman of Telesat and of TMI Communications and as a director of Bell Canada, BCE Mobile Communications Inc. and Teleglobe Inc.

BCE is Canada's largest telecommunications company. Its common shares are listed on stock exchanges in Canada, the United States, Japan and Europe.

Mr. Osborne graduated from Cambridge University in 1968 with a degree in French and German. He became a chartered accountant in 1972 and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1988.

He joined Maclean Hunter in March 1981 as vice-president, finance and chief financial officer. In January 1982, he was appointed vice-president, broadcasting and chief financial officer becoming president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

From 1988 to 1994, he was chairman of the Sectoral Advisory Group in International Trade (SAGIT SAGIT Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade (Canada) ) to advise the government on current trade issues relating specifically to the arts and cultural industries.

Mr. Osborne joined BCE in January 1995 as executive vice-president and chief financial officer. His BCE board memberships include Bell Canada, BCE Mobile, Bell Canada International, Bimcor, BCE Capital, Tele-Direct (Publications), Bell Cablemedia plc, Bruncor, New Brunswick Telephone, Telesat Canada, TMI Communications, MediaLinx and ExpressVu.

Mr. Osborne is also a director of Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada and Noranda Inc. He has served on the boards of a number of community organizations in the health, education and cultural fields. A Canadian citizen and resident of Montreal, Mr. Osborne, age 49, is married to the former Grace Snead, with two sons and a daughter.
