RALEIGH, N.C. - The Pepperdine men's basketball team got off to a good start in the first half of its season opener. The second half was another story.

The Waves led 39-33 at halftime but were outscored 47-19 in the second half.

Pepperdine freshman Kingsley Costain, who played for the Canadian National Team Canadian National Team or Team Canada can mean various things:

Mike Cook scored a career-high 21 points and freshman Josh King made three 3-pointers during a decisive run, helping East Carolina rally past Pepperdine. The Waves made just 4 of 22 3-point attempts.

Senior Glen McGowan also was in foul trouble in the first half. He scored 11 points in 28 minutes and had a team-high eight rebounds.

East Carolina completed the victory with a flourish as Corey Rouse got loose for powerful dunks on consecutive possessions. After the second one, Pepperdine coach Paul Westphal called a timeout and cleared his bench.

Rouse scored 12 points and King had 11 points in his first game for the Pirates.
