, has awarded Cubic Automatic Revenue Collection Group a $10.7 million contract to provide an integrated fare collection system for its fleet of approximately 1,000 buses.

BC Transit is a provincial crown agency responsible for coordinating the delivery of public transportation within British Columbia, Canada, outside of
, which provides bus service to Vancouver and its surrounding communities, will begin taking delivery of the new fareboxes within the next two years. Initially, the units will process coins and magnetically encoded passes for fare payment and also issue magnetically encoded transfers.

The electronic fareboxes offer multiple benefits both to the transit agency and its patrons. For the agency, greater revenue-tracking capability is achieved, as well as more flexibility in fare products for future expansion of services, including the ability to add a smart card payment component. For bus riders, the enhanced fare processing capability of read/write magnetic farecards will provide added convenience for their travel, including new fare media products.
