AN Indian car worker was made to memorise an electrical colour code using a racist phrase, a tribunal heard yesterday.

Bosses told Vijay Madera to use the words "black b*******s rape our young girls but virgins go without" on a course at a Toyota factory.

The 29-year-old said he felt degraded by the instruction to help him remember black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, green, white, a code for electrical resistance.

And Vijay was later sent back to the shop floor after a maintenance engineering exam he passed was changed to a fail by training officer Duane Doherty, because he was Asian.

The tribunal agreed he had been racially discriminated against at the factory in Burnaston, Derbys.

Chairman Chris Goodchild said of Mr Doherty: "He acted deliberately because of the applicant's race."

The Nottingham panel will decide later if Vijay, of Derby, will get a payout. Vijay, who is still at the plant, said afterwards: "It has been a very anxious time. I always had one question, was what happened to me right? The tribunal agreed it wasn't."

The factory's assistant boss Bryan Jackson said: "I'm sorry Vijay had to endure this but he did not tell us he had a problem related to race."
