BBN reports fourth quarter and year-end 1995 results.

: BBN (BBN Technologies, Cambridge, MA, www.bbn.com) A consulting firm that participated in the development of some of the most extensive networks in the world, including ARPANET, which evolved into the Internet. It was founded in 1948 as a consulting service in acoustics by Dr. ) today reported a net loss of $5,889,000, or $.34 per share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 1995, compared to a net loss of $1,952,000, or $.12 per share, for the same period a year ago.

The company reported fourth quarter 1995 sales of $60,159,000, a 22 percent increase over the $49,242,000 in sales from the same quarter in fiscal year 1994.

For the fiscal year, BBN reported net income of $64,844,000, or $3.61 per share, on sales of $215,031,000. These results include the $105,000,000 pre-tax gain from the previously announced sale of the assets of LightStream Corp. to Cisco Systems “Cisco” redirects here. Revenues for BBN's Systems and Technologies Division, which offers research, development and advanced technologies to government and commerical customers, were comparable to last year. BBN HARK Systems Corp., BBN's speech recognition subsidiary, continued to invest in sales, marketing and new product development. BBN HARK experienced revenue growth and increased operating losses for fiscal year 1995, and has recently announced reseller An organization that sells hardware and software to the general public.
