BBN completes SURAnet acquisition.CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 1995--Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. It was founded in 1948 as a consulting service in acoustics by Dr. ) announced today that it has completed its acquisition of the SURAnet Internet service organization from the Southeastern Universities Research Association (SURA). BBN has acquired substantially all of the SURAnet assets fora approximately $13 million in cash and the assumption of certain operating liabilities. The agreement was signed on March 7, pending government approval and the meeting of other conditions. With this acquisition, BBN, through its BBN Planet Corp. subsidiary, has broadened significantly its share of the Internet services market.
