BBN board elects Conrades chairman; Shareholders make BBN Corporation official name.

:BBN) Board of Directors has elected George H. Conrades to the additional post of Chairman, succeeding Stephen R. Levy, who officially retired from BBN on Monday, Nov. 6. Mr. Conrades will continue as president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the Company.

Mr. Levy announced his retirement as a BBN employee and as Chairman on September 29, 1995. He will remain on the BBN Board as chairman emeritus, and on the boards of BBN's three subsidiaries, BBN Planet Corporation, BBN Domain Corporation and BBN Hark hark

Mr. Conrades has been president and chief executive officer of BBN since January 1994. At BBN, Mr. Conrades has focused the company's investments and partnerships with other companies on Internet-related solutions for business customers. BBN is concentrating primarily on Internet-related opportunities such as access services and security; collaborative technologies such as video, speech recognition and intelligent agents; and on networked applications. In its fiscal year 1995, BBN sold its ATM subsidiary, LightStream Corporation, making possible the company's emphasis on advanced software and services offerings for business use of the Internet.

Mr. Conrades is a former senior vice president of IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) . Company Name Change

At the BBN Annual Meeting on Monday, shareholders voted to approve BBN management's proposal to change the Company's name from Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. to BBN Corporation, effective immediately.

"The new name is intended to help simplify BBN's branding efforts in the market place," Mr. Conrades said. "At the same time, it recalls our heritage of innovation in technologies that have made us what we are today."
