BBN Technologies Appoints Dr. Anita K. Jones to Board of Directors.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and ARLINGTON, Va. -- BBN Technologies, a leading provider of advanced technology and research and development, announced today that Dr. Anita K. Jones, the Lawrence R. Quarles Professor of Engineering & Applied Science, and Professor of Computer Science in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia, has been appointed to the company's Board of Directors.

Among Dr. Jones' many career highlights are the following:

--Director of Defense Research and Engineering for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), where Dr. Jones was responsible for (i) the management of the science and technology program, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), (ii) oversight of DoD laboratories, and (iii) serving as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for defense-related scientific and technical matters

--Past member and vice-chair of the National Science Board, which advises the President on science, engineering, and education and oversees the National Science Foundation

--Member of the Defense Science Board, the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory Corporation, the MIT Corporation, and the National Academy of Engineering

--Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and the American Academy for the Advancement of Science

--Recipient of the Computing Research Association's Service Award, the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and the Department of Defense Award for Distinguished Public Service

--Current member of the Boards of Directors of Science Applications International Corporation, Avaki Corporation and In-Q-Tel

Dr. Jones has published more than 40 technical articles and two books in the area of computer software and systems and cyber-security. Dr. Jones holds an A.B. from Rice University in mathematics, a Master of Arts from the University of Texas, Austin, in literature, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.
