BBN Corporation names Max D. Hopper and Regis McKenna to Board of Directors.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1996--BBN Corporation (NYSE:BBN) today announced that Max D. Hopper and Regis McKenna have joined its Board of Directors.

Max D. Hopper is the founder and CEO of Max D. Hopper, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in creating benefits from the strategic use of advanced information technologies, while Regis McKenna is chairman of Gemini McKenna High Tech Strategies, an international high-technology marketing consulting firm. Both Hopper and McKenna have been members of the BBN Planet Board of Directors.

Hopper recently retired as chairman of AMR's SABRE Group and senior vice president of AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines. As chairman at SABRE Group, he was responsible for facilitating the growth and expansion of the company's business activities, as well as exploring market opportunities in industries where AMR's existing or acquired skills gave the company a strategic advantage. Under Hopper's leadership, SABRE expanded from a computer system serving the needs of American Airline's operations to the world's largest computer reservations system, serving hundreds of thousands of travel industry professionals worldwide.

Hopper also served as executive vice president for Bank of America from 1982 through 1985. Prior to joining American Airlines in 1972, he worked for Shell Oil Company, Electronic Data Systems and United Airlines. Hopper currently serves on the Board of Directors of Gartner Group Inc., VTEL Corporation, Centurion Corporation (formerly Gupta Corporation), Scopus Technology, USData Corporation, Computer Language Research, MCC Corporation and Worldtalk Corporation. He previously served on the boards of several other firms in the technology, travel and financial services industries.

McKenna has authored several books on high-technology marketing, including The Regis Touch and Relationship Marketing, and is on the advisory board to Stanford's Graduate School of Business and on the board of Smart Valley, a Silicon Valley project to create an information highway linking businesses, schools, government and homes. He also has served as an advisor to the Office of Technology Assessment on U.S. competitiveness issues. McKenna is a trustee at Santa Clara University and president of the Board of Trustees for the New Children's Shelter of Santa Clara County.

McKenna is a venture partner of the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and he lectures and conducts seminars on technology marketing and competitiveness issues throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.
