BBN Corporation Announces Global Internet Services; BBN Planet Makes Business-Grade Internet Service Available Worldwide.


CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 1996--BBN Corporation today announced the Internet industry's first globally available business-grade Internet services.

The offering includes BBN (BBN Technologies, Cambridge, MA, www.bbn.com) A consulting firm that participated in the development of some of the most extensive networks in the world, including ARPANET, which evolved into the Internet. It was founded in 1948 as a consulting service in acoustics by Dr.  Planet Internet Planet Internet is one of the largest internet service providers (ISPs) in the Netherlands. Planet Internet is a brand of the Planet Media Group, which is a subsidiary of KPN.

BBN on Friday, entered into an agreement with Scitor to provide network services to BBN Planet outside the United States. The arrangement complements BBN's existing relationship with AT&T Corporation for Internet-related services in the United States.

It offers on-the-ground support and multilingual customer help desks in more than 160 locations worldwide.

Tom Dunigan, corporate network manager for Cabletron Systems Inc., said, "Our international requirements have been difficult to meet until now because we have been unable to work with a single vendor that can offer us a set of reliable services everywhere in the world that we have an office.
