BBC plans more Xmas with Royles; TELEVISION.

 bosses are in talks with Caroline Aherne Caroline Aherne (born 24 December 1963 in Ealing, London) [1] is an English comedian, writer and actress best known for her award winning creations Mrs Merton and The Royle Family. Aherne was raised in Wythenshawe, Manchester.  to write more specials of The Royle Family after 10 million tuned into the comedy on Christmas Day.

The hour-long episode was one of the high points of the festive schedule.

Screenwriter and actress Aherne, 48, who scripts the sitcom with co-star Craig Cash, has been offered a deal to create at least two more. A BBC source said: "The Royle Family has been a hit this Christmas.

 received critical acclaim and bosses at the BBC have been badgering Caroline to do more ever since.

"We billed this year's special as a one-off but Caroline has agreed a deal to create more for next year and the year after.

"It would be great if they could be screened at Christmas to get another quality programme in the schedule."
