BBC drops Crufts.THE BBC BBC in full British Broadcasting Corp. Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927. has pulled the plug on TV coverage of next year's Crufts show at the NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98). NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd. . Thousands of dog lovers gather each year for the show in Birmingham, which has been a regular fixture on TV for almost 20 years. A fall-out between the broadcaster and the Kennel Club following a BBC investigation into pedigree breeding practices is the main reason behind the decision to axe coverage of the show. The club said it would not accept the BBC's condition that some breeds of dogs should be excluded from the show. |
