BBC Chooses Omneon Networked Content Server for Major Investment in Play-Out Infrastructure.

Omneon's Networked Content Server System has been chosen by the BBC BBC
 in full British Broadcasting Corp.

Publicly financed broadcasting system in Britain. A private company at its founding in 1922, it was replaced by a public corporation under royal charter in 1927.
 for two projects as part of an expansion by the Corporation in play-out infrastructure. The BBC has ordered two, six-channel systems with 20 hours of MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). 2 storage in each system for installation in its Multi-Streaming Area (MSA (Metropolitan Service Area) An urban area with at least 50,000 people plus surrounding counties. There are 306 MSAs and 428 RSAs (rural service areas) in the U.S. MSAs and RSAs are used to allocate cellular licenses. ) at Television Centre in London.

The two projects are using OmniBus' multi-channel control and automation system, Colossus Colossus - (A huge and ancient statue on the Greek island of Rhodes).

1. The Colossus and Colossus Mark II computers used by Alan Turing at Bletchley Park, UK during the Second World War to crack the "Tunny" cipher produced by the Lorenz SZ 40 and SZ 42 machines.
, which is the first installation of the system at the BBC. The overall project is being managed by ATG ATG antithymocyte globulin.
