BIG Brother newcomer David Parnaby wants to win the show to get back at school bullies.

The flamboyant 25-year-old Scot told his best pal Lana Grant he is determined to prove to his childhood tormentors that he can be a success.

He confided in her hours before last-minute nerves threatened his BB debut.

Lana, 25, who has been best friends with David since they met at Dalmilling Primary School in Ayr, said: "He was badly bullied through primary and then secondary school.

"He was taunted because he was different and had different views and wouldn't bow to peer pressure to be the same as everyone else.

"It upset him as he can be very sensitive but he never stayed away from school and they never saw him cry.

"All it did was make him a stronger person. He doesn't take any nonsense and he's not afraid to be himself any more.

"He's a real individual and loves fashion and dressing up.

"Sometimes he found it hard to live in a place like Ayr because he is so different and doesn't fit in but now he loves the attention."

David, who says he is a practising pagan, was one of five people who entered Big Brother's "halfway house" on Friday. Two will be chosen to swap places with existing housemates tomorrow.

David, who gave up his job in fashion store H&M to take part in BB, was sworn to secrecy when he was chosen but he couldn't resist telling Lana.

Hours before his flight to London on Thursday, he told her he was having last-minute nerves.

Lana, a car sales advisor, said: "He was nervous and I said there was no shame in him backing out. But he said this was his chance to show people the real him."

Lana says many people wrongly assume David is gay because he is so camp.

Others think that they are boyfriend and girlfriend. She said : "He hasn't really had serious relationships.

"Our friendship is far too precious and we are more like brother and sister. I want people to see the real David because he's a really special person."
