    BAYBANK FIRST TO BRING SELF-SERVICE BANKING TO MASSACHUSETTS; NEW DOWNTOWN BOSTON BAYBANK OFFICE OPENS DOOR TO SELF-SERVICE BANKING
    BOSTON, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- BayBank Boston, N.A. today opened the first self-service retail banking office in Massachusetts.  Located at 79 Summer St. in Boston, the office combines state-of-the-art banking technology with additional services to create a unique, convenient banking environment.
    "BayBank is the first bank in New England to offer consumers this combination of new services and features in a self-service environment," notes Trumbull C. Curtiss, managing director, BayBanks Systems, Inc. "Now at our new Summer Street office, consumers who live and work in downtown Boston can do all their banking -- from getting cash and checking balances to re-ordering checks and applying for a loan -- and even purchase postage stamps in one place, quickly and conveniently."
    In addition to conducting routine banking transactions such as getting cash and account updates at the 79 Summer St. BayBank X-Press Banking Center, consumers can get personalized financial information, learn more about BayBank products and services, and purchase first-class postage stamps.  This new BayBank self-service banking center is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
    Consumers will find the following in the BayBank X-Press Banking Center at 79 Summer St., Boston:
    -- Private workstations containing the BayBank X-Press Banker(tm)  and BayBank X-Press Phone(tm).
    Introduced earlier this fall by BayBank, the X-Press Banker is a color touch-screen banking system which can be used to generate customized financial information, review account activity, report a change of address and re-order same style replacement checks, as well as get information on other BayBank accounts and services, including current interest rates.
    BayBank X-Press Phones are newly designed touch-tone telephones available 24 hours a day for customer service.  Two-digit codes provide consumers with a direct connection to BayBank Customer Service Specialists who can answer specific questions, provide additional product information, or take a loan or credit application.
    -- A specially-marked BayBank X-Press 24 banking machine at which BayBank Cardholders, with a Checking/NOW account, may purchase a sheet containing 18 self-adhesive first-class U.S. postage stamps for a small introductory fee of 25 cents.  BayBank is the first retail bank on the East Coast to offer stamp purchasing at select banking machines.
    -- In addition, there are four BayBank X-Press 24 full-service banking machines, a bill changer which can make change for $1, $5, $10 and $20 bills, and a BayBank X-Press Mailbox(tm) where customers can drop off credit applications, check reorders, and requests for product information.
    The self-service BayBank office is one of several BayBank X-Press Banking centers located within the Greater Boston area.  BayBank X-Press Banking centers were opened in August at 699 Boylston St., Exeter Plaza, Boston; 700 Commonwealth Ave., BU Warren Towers, Boston; 226 Main St., Kendall Square, Cambridge; and at 858 Washington St., in Dedham. BayBank X-Press Bankers and X-Press Phones, as well as a BayBank X-Press 24 banking machine which dispenses postage stamps, are lcoated within these X-Press Banking centers.
