BAXTER AND AREA ATHLETES ARE HONORED.

Royal High School's John Baxter, the Daily News' boys' volleyball Player of the Year, was one of numerous area athletes to be named to the Southern Section teams in volleyball, baseball and softball.

Baxter and teammate Ryan Denihan, were named to the Division I first team, while teammate Nick Flanagan was named to the second team. John Penfield of Thousand Oaks and Royal's Marc Chaffee were third-team honorees.

Camarillo's Joe Borchard capped his baseball career by being named to the Division I first team. Royal's Matt Pesso made the second team.

Kevin Howard of Westlake made the Division III first team, and his teammate Ryan Cope made the second team. Moorpark's Chris Doan and Ryan Yoshiwara also were named to the second team.

Dan Wasserman of Oak Park earned Division IV first-team honors.

Chris Delaplane and Tim Thompson of Grace Brethren, and Viewpoint's Chaney Sheffield made the Division VI first team.

In softball, Thousand Oaks' Jennifer Sharron and Erika Hanson were named to the Division I first team, while Camarillo's Brooke Rutschman and Simi Valley's Lori Tande made the second team.

Aimee Thompson of La Reina earned Division IV first-team honors, and teammates Mackenzie Vandergeest was named to the second team.

Julie Siefert and Julia Tamai of Cornerstone Christian made the Division VI first team.

Tracey Milburn of Moorpark and Candace Roberts of Newbury Park made the Division III second team. In Division V, Oak Park's Julie Jensen made the second team.
