BATTLING SPIRIT OF AUSSIES; AT LORD'S SET FOR FINAL DAY THRILLER 2ND TEST BRING HOME THE ASHES.

Byline: MIKE WALTERS

ENGLAND will walk an Ashes tightrope at Lord's today.

And Graeme Swann Graeme Peter Swann (born March 24, 1979) is an English cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm offbreak bowler. He made his cricketing debut with home team Northamptonshire in 1997, before moving to Leicestershire during the 1998 County Championship.  admitted: "It looks like 2005 all over again."

Swann's two wickets in 18 balls reduced the Aussies to 128-5 in pursuit of a world record 522 to win the second npower Ashes Test and put England on course for their first win against the old enemy at Headquarters since 1934.

By the close, however, Michael Clarke Michael Clarke may refer to:
  • Michael Clarke (cricketer)
  • Michael Clarke (musician)
  • Michael Clarke (politician), Mayor of City of Maribyrnong
  • Michael Clarke Duncan, U.S.
and Brad Haddin's unbroken 185-run stand had rattled England so much that skipper Andrew Strauss Andrew John Strauss MBE, (born 2 March 1977 in Johannesburg, South Africa) is an English cricketer who plays county cricket for Middlesex County Cricket Club and Test matches and One-Day Internationals for England.  convened an emergency huddle when they took the second new ball, six overs before bad light stopped play.

Fans in today's sell-out crowd may be heading for a repeat of the Edgbaston thriller four years ago, when England scraped home by two runs to set the Ashes on fire.

And Swann warned another gut-wrenching finish against Australia was in the nation's genes, saying: "I'm English, and as you know the English get nervous about everything. It's going to be a great finish, but it wouldn't be the Ashes if it wasn't like that.

"I'm just glad it's living up to the excitement of 2005 - the worst thing would be to play in my first Ashes series This is a list of Ashes cricket series played between Australia and England. Most Ashes series have consisted of five Test matches between the two countries. The Ashes series with the fewest Test matches was the 1887-88 Ashes series, consisting of only one Test.  and it turned out to be a pile of s***!

"Although we were on cloud nine when we had them five down, nothing has changed: when you play against Australia you don't expect them to lie down and die."

The Aussies were angry that Rudi Koertzen failed to spot Freddie Flintoff overstepping when he removed opener Simon Katich to a sharp catch in the gully from Kevin Pietersen.

They were angry when Koertzen and his sidekick Billy Doctrove refused to refer Phil Hughes' dismissal to TV official Nigel Llong when Strauss claimed a low slip catch - 24 hours after Ravi Bopara had been reprieved by the cameras.

And they were incredulous about Mike Hussey's bizarre exit from a Swann off-break which turned sharply out of the rough past the outside edge - and was snaffled by Paul Collingwood at slip.
