BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES INC. INTRODUCES RAM COMMERCIALLY

RICHMOND HILL, Ontario, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Mr. H. Neil Nichols, chairman, president and CEO of Battery Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce the first commercial introduction of BTI's Reusable Alkaline Manganese (RAM) battery system technology. Today, Rayovac Corporation officially announced the U.S. launch of a full line of high performance reusable alkaline batteries and chargers.
Under the brand name RENEWAL, Rayovac will introduce into the U.S. marketplace environmentally friendly AA, AAA, C and D size reusable alkaline batteries together with an all size eight position family power station and a compact portable, AA/AAA four position power station.
Rayovac's new RENEWAL reusable alkaline batteries will out-perform Nickel Cadmium (Nicad) rechargeable batteries. On its initial use, RENEWAL will last up to three times longer than a fully charged Nicad. And, unlike Nicad batteries that must be charged before first-time use, Rayovac's RENEWAL batteries come fully charged. Compared to the three- month shelf life of Nicads, RENEWAL batteries hold their charge up to five years so they are ready to use when needed.
RENEWAL will be launched in the fourth quarter with the largest advertising campaign ever for rechargeable batteries. Promotion of RENEWAL will include a high visibility television and print campaign that will be directed at heavy user battery households and current and ex-Nicad users.
During a press conference in New York City today, Rayovac reported on the extensive market research that was conducted over the past three years for RENEWAL. Consumer research was conducted with over 9,000 households, including both alkaline and Nicad users. Ninety-eight percent of those testing the product rated RENEWAL as good or better than regular disposable alkaline batteries. Participants in Rayovac's test strongly preferred RENEWAL performance over Nicad rechargeable batteries.
"RENEWAL is the most environmentally responsible battery on the market today," said Thomas F. Pyle, Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer for Rayovac Corporation. "This battery combines the long life and performance qualities of alkaline in a reusable, no- cadmium-added system."
"We are extremely excited and impressed with the extent of Rayovac's commitment to our technology. Their advertising campaign in support of the launch of RENEWAL, is an indication of Rayovac's dedication and belief in BTI's technology," said Mr. Nichols. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our employees for their hard work and dedication over the past seven years, as well as our many shareholders who have remained committed to BTI."
"RENEWAL'S market entry and the upcoming introduction of the technology from RAM Batteries Canada and Phoenix Energy Corporation will be greatly beneficial to our licensing program," commented Mr. Nichols. "We are confident that additional license agreements will be consummated in the near term, enabling the company to meet its objective of world market penetration of this advanced technology."
Under the direction of Dr. Frank Parsen and Dr. Karl Kordesch, inventor of both the single use and reusable alkaline battery technologies, BTI has researched and developed the patented RAM battery system since 1986. To date, five license agreements have been signed by the BTI Group of companies and several option agreements have been consummated.
At the present time, BTI common shares are traded under the symbol BTII on the Canadian Dealer Network.
