``The last couple of weeks we were kind of struggling, but the pitching the last couple of days has been big,'' JetHawks catcher Phil Avlas (Kennedy High of Granada Hills) said. ``Silva saved our bullpen today.''

    ``It's been a long day, and for us to play the way we did tonight was huge,'' Backman said.

    --Note: Backman was back in the third-base coaching box Tuesday for the first time since suffering a calf injury when he jumped out of the dugout to argue with an umpire July 8. However, he aggravated the injury and will see a doctor today.
