BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: BUCKLEY MAKES HISTORY IN WIN.

The duo of Richie Polan and Hussein Habibi have given the Buckley of Sherman Oaks a season it has never seen in the duration of the program.

Friday's 71-52 win over second-seeded St. Anthony of Long Beach in the Southern Section Division IV-A playoffs at Harvard-Westlake in Studio City further solidified Polan's and Habibi's contributions.

Polan scored 34 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Habibi had 23 points, 10rebounds and five assists to lead the Griffins (24-6) to its first final in the history of the program.

Andrew Farhardi added 12 points for the Griffins (24-6) and Howard Douglas scored a team-high 20 points for St.Anthony's (25-4).

OTHER SOUTHERN SECTION GAMES:

DIV. II-AA

Murrietta Valley 64, Burroughs 54: After another long bus ride inland, Southern Section Division II-AA quarfinal playoff, wild-card winner Burroughs of Burbank boys' basketball team found itself tied going into the fourth quarter against host Murrieta Valley.

But, the Bulldogs, who defeated inland team's Diamond Ranch and sixth-seeded Temecula Valley in its playoff run, fell to Nighthawks 64-54, after being outscored 20-10 in the final quarter.

Jordan Lopez scored a game-high 19 points for the Indians (18-12).

Vincent Quick scored 17 points for Murrieta Valley (20-10) and teammate Cody Phillips added 16 points.

DIV. III-AA

Campbell Hall 78, Savanna savanna or savannah (both: səvăn`ə), tropical or subtropical grassland lying on the margin of the trade wind belts. The climate of a savanna is characterized by a rainy period during the summer when the area is covered by grasses, and by a dry winter when the grasses wither. 30: Jrue Holiday scored 36 points to lead host Campbell Hall of North Hollywood to a victory against Savanna of Anaheim.

Justin Holiday added 14points and Robert Ford had 12 for the Vikings (27-1), who will play Oak Park in the semifinals Tuesday.

Dominic Williams scored a team-high 15 points for Savanna (20-8).

DIV. III-A

Renaissance Academy 63, Perris 54: Justin Cook scored a game-high to lead second-seeded Renaissance Academy of La Canada to a semifinal victory against visiting Perris (18-9).

INVITATIONAL SEMIFINALS

Roosevelt 59, El Camino Real 48: Monika Fernandez scored a game-high 19 points, but visiting El Camino Real of Woodland Hills lost to Roosevelt of Los Angeles in the semifinals of the City Invitational tournament.

Sarah Rebibo added 10points for the Conquistadores (8-19) and Diana Barrios led the Rough Riders Rough Riders, popular name for the 1st Regiment of U.S. Cavalry Volunteers, organized largely by Theodore Roosevelt in the Spanish-American War (1898). Its members were mostly ranchers and cowboys from the West, with a sprinkling of adventurous blue bloods from the Eastern universities. Roosevelt resigned his post as Assistant Secretary of the Navy to enter active fighting. (17-8) with 13 points.
