BASKETBALL: Leading lights off to flying starts.

It all went to plan for the top two from last season's Warwickshire Basketball League Division One as they started their new campaigns with the right results.

But the manner of their victories could hardly have been more different, as Godiva tossed Ernesford Eagles aside to win 81-30, while Nuneaton edged to a less-than-convincing 70-65 success at Warwick University.

The highlight of the week's play saw a magnificent 43 points come from the hands of Godiva marksman David Jones David Jones is a common name, particularly in Wales, and there have been several well-known individuals with this name. After an impressive 18-6 start to their game with Warwick University though, Nuneaton took their foot off the pedal and suffered the consequences - going behind, before a verbal barrage from coach Mark Bradbury stirred the visitors again. They regained the initiative just after half-time, and just did enough to claim the match points.
