BASKETBALL: ANOTHER SIDE OF GOLDMAN : PASSER TURNS OFFENSIVE IN SLAM-DUNK CONTEST.

Byline: Heather Gripp Daily News Staff Writer

Michael Goldman Michael Goldman (born 1955) is an American politician of the Charter Party of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He worked as a playwright in New York and apprentice screenwriter in Los Angeles, producing plays in Cincinnati and Boston.
seemed out of character as he soared through the air, turning in 360-degree and reverse slam dunks.

The performance earned the Calabasas High senior a title in the slam dunk contest The Slam Dunk Contest is an annual NBA competition held during the week of the NBA All-Star Game. ``I wouldn't say I do it regularly,'' Goldman said of dunking Dunking is a form of torture and punishment that was applied to scolds and supposed witches.

agreed the performance was not typical of Goldman, who is only 6-foot-1.

``He's not what I'd consider to be the flashiest player,'' Cohen said. ``He never tries to show anybody up. He makes unbelievable passes but never showboats.

``He's the prototypical point guard. He knows how to get everyone involved. We had a game where we scored 56 points and he was a part of 54 of them. He does the stuff that makes the other guys score. He'll go through five guys then hand it off. Of course, he can score too when he needs to.''

Although Calabasas played to a 10-16 record, the Coyotes found a bright spot in the emergence of Goldman's potential toward the end of the season. He has helped lead Calabasas to a 5-3 record so far during the summer.

``At the end of last season, beginning of this season, I really started to come on,'' said, Goldman, who hopes to play for Pepperdine. ``I've just matured on the court. Before, I was out of control offensively. Now, I'm more structured on offense.

``I really want to play in college. I'll do whatever it takes to get there.''

This summer, Goldman had a 34-point game against Newbury Park and scored 31 points against Agoura. He's averaging 27 points a game, but takes just as much pride in his average of 11 assists a game.

Another factor in Goldman's frequent passing is the punishment his 150-pound frame receives when he goes up for the shot.

``When I drive to the basket, I get hit hard,'' he said.

In an effort to put on more weight, the 17-year-old swims, works out with weights and eats as much as possible. ``Whenever I'm not playing basketball, I'm eating,'' he said. ``It's hard to gain weight, though.''
