BASKETBALL: ALL-STARS PLAY TONIGHT.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Is it possible to have too much talent on one basketball team? Perhaps Southern Section All-Star coach Dick Dornan will have such a dilemma against the City Section in tonight's third annual Battle of the Valley All-Star Game at Cal State Northridge (7:30 tip-off).

But Dornan said his players have good dispositions to match their overwhelming skill. Certainly it won't be easy for 12 individuals who were stars on their own teams to fit in well together. But so far Dornan sees no problems.

``We just had a pretty intense practice and I was very impressed, both with the skill level and their attitudes,'' Dornan said Thursday. ``I'm very very happy with the players I have.''

Who wouldn't be happy to have so many talented teen-agers on one roster? Alemany's Devin Montgomery, Chaminade's Cayce Cook and Notre Dame's Dante Word are among his players, and those are just the guards. He also has Notre Dame's Chris Williams, Calabasas' Michael Goldman and several other well-known names.

The City team, co-coached by Adam Levitt and James Morris of Cleveland, counters with George Wrighster, Jeremiah Turner and T.K. Reed of Sylmar, Kent Dennis of Cleveland, Mark Cannon of Chatsworth and more.

Expect a high-scoring game with plenty of razzle-dazzle performances common to all-star games. A slam-dunk contest is scheduled for halftime.

Hinojosa, Udeze lead the girls: Damaris Damaris (dăm`ərĭs), in the Acts of the Apostles, woman converted at Athens. Hinojosa of Moorpark and Omelogo Udeze of Harvard-Westlake hope to give the Southern Section its third straight All-Star win over the City at 5:30 at the same site. Dave Munroe of Hart is the coach.

Cara Blumfield of El Camino Real and Tashean Thomas of North Hollywood are the biggest names on the City Section.
