Unlocking the secrets to good posture

Q: I have had terrible posture for as long as I can remember. I was hoping you could give me some tips. I am 37 years old and 5 feet 8 inches. I try to be conscious of my posture, but it only seems to last about a minute and then I'm slouching slouch

 again. It feels awkward to sit/stand straight and have my chest out. Can you suggest some kind of technique or exercise?

. Having bad posture can also make you look heavier than you really are. Good posture is the foundation of all your movements, whether you are standing or sitting.

Good posture must be practiced so that it can become a habit. You need to remind yourself to stand and sit up straight as often as you can remember.

Spend a few minutes every day doing these simple posture exercises, and you will stretch and strengthen the postural muscles.

1. Lie on your back and place your hands behind your head. Press your elbows against the floor and hold for 10 seconds.

2. Sit in a chair and lean back Verb 1. lean back - move the upper body backwards and down

fall back - fall backwards and down
. Hands are behind your neck and press the elbows out. Hold for 10 seconds.

3. Lie on your stomach and clasp CLASP - Computer Language for AeronauticS and Programming  your hands behind your back. Raise the shoulders and chest off the floor. Hold for 10 seconds.

4. This one is my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band. : Stand with a book on your head. Lift your chest and feel your neck lengthen. Hold the jaw slightly forward. Hold for 10 seconds and then slowly walk around the room.

These exercises are simple to do and really will help improve your posture. You will strengthen the right muscles so that good posture is yours to keep.

In addition to all of the proven methods of stress reduction (meditation, massage and exercise), here are a few other ways to help relieve tension: Listen to music, turn away from your computer and stare at a soothing picture, turn off your telephone, give your pet some attention. Engage in any of these mental exercises for between 30 seconds and 5 minutes throughout the day.
