Many of the young people who addressed the commission focused on basic safety and health issues, calling for more police to interact with the community and for stepped-up efforts against gang violence. Stotzer was intrigued by a call for the city to use its jurisdiction over public advertisements, such as billboards, to involve kids in the approval process for ads that target them. Attending the forum with several other mayoral staffers, she took note of additional suggestions. ``It seems like we might be on the right path, but we're going to keep listening to make sure your good ideas get captured,'' she said. Most of the young people at the meeting participate in various city, nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive. Nonprofits are also called not-for-profit corporations. Nonprofit corporations are created according to state law. and school organizations. Landeta, the Winnetka teen who also serves on the city's Youth Council, said she hopes the commission will reach out to kids who have not been involved in such groups. ``I really hope this isn't something that's kept in City Hall,'' she said. ``I hope it's something that really empowers youth all throughout the city.''
