BASIC CABLE NETWORKS OVERTAKE TOP FOUR BROADCASTERS.

Basic cable networks hit a historic high last week as they continued to siphon viewers from NBC NBC
 in full National Broadcasting Co.

For the first time ever, the cable networks outpointed the top four broadcasters for a week in prime time by every available Nielsen Media Research measurement - total viewers, ratings and audience share, the Cable Television Advertising Bureau said Tuesday.

ABC scored its lowest weekly rating ever last week, and NBC also suffered from severe audience erosion.

For the week, the 42 basic cable networks drew an average of 21.6 million viewers, while the top four broadcasters had 21.3 million. The cable trade organization doesn't include the two mini-networks, the WB and UPN UPN User Principal Name (Microsoft Windows 2000)
